Choosing the right ringtone!
Remember when the only ringtone available for your phone was the standard ring that came with it? If you were lucky, you maybe got a nice version of “Twinkle Little Star” or “When the Saints Go Marching In.” Or even “Ode to Joy” was a rarity and something to get excited about. Nowadays you can have your iPod and your cell phone all in the same place, and pretty much make your favorite song in the world your ring tone. Here are currently what your options are for choosing your ring tone.

 |
The Monophonic Ringtone
This type of ringtone, is the ringtone that has one single note that is played. It essentially was the first version of the ringtone in your phone, and still exists within your cell phone today, but is mostly used for setting an alarm or setting an alert for an event in your phone. You can still have a tune with the monophonic ringtone, though, so if you want something simple, however, that is clear and concise, then this is the kind of ringtone for you. |

The Polyphonic Ringtone
This is the type of ringtone that provides a much more complex sound. It is not the exact version of the song you are listening to, but it is a version that is close and actually has depth, rather than the single note with the monophonic ringtone. If your phone has the ability to have this kind of ringtone, then there are several songs that you will be able to choose from. This makes it a lot easier and even more fun when you are assigning different ringtones to different groups of people. You will have the option of either using a song that was created by your provider, or a song that you know and love, even though it will not be the exact replica of the song. You usually are able to choose form a number of different musical genres, such as classical or pop, which makes it a fun ringtone to have. |

MP3 Ringtones
These kinds of ringtones are exactly what they sound like. They are the mp3 of the song that you want to listen to, as in the exact song. Most new phones now have this ability. You can purchase and download the song of your choice and make it your ringtone. Most of these phones now have the option to save these songs so you can make sure they do not get removed if something happens to your phone. If you are looking to have a professional ringtone, then an mp3 most likely will not be your ringtone of choice. In this case it would be more productive for you to either stick with a monophonic ringtone or keep your phone on vibrate.
